Background & context

Every US vehicle carried two numbers. The registration number with the prefix USA stood for the individual vehicle and was applied in blue-grey paint that barely stood out from the olive green. The bumper code, by contrast, spelled out the unit structure: front left the army and division, front right the battalion, company and the number within the platoon. Anyone who could read that code knew within seconds who was driving past.

On the tabletop

Every American vehicle carried two numbers, and this sheet supplies both. The registration number with the USA prefix identified the individual vehicle and goes on the bonnet or hull. The bumper code on the bumper showed the unit the vehicle belonged to. With both markings your US jeeps, trucks and tanks look like vehicles of a specific unit.
