    Product details

    Background & context

The Alligator began before the war as a civilian rescue vehicle for the swamps of Florida; its scoop-shaped tracks pushed it through water as well as mud. The US Navy recognised what that meant for coral reefs that no landing craft can cross. The cargo carrier soon became a fighting vehicle: the LVT(A)-1 received the turret of the Stuart, the LVT(A)-4 the short 75 mm howitzer of the M8. Both rolled ashore at Saipan, Peleliu and Iwo Jima as floating artillery ahead of the first wave.

    On the tabletop

The armoured amtrac gives fire cover to landings in the Pacific, swimming ahead of the first wave onto the beach and crossing coral reefs on the way. As the LVT(A)-1 it carries the Stuart turret, as the LVT(A)-4 the short 75 mm howitzer for use against positions on the beach. The waterline hull lets you show it afloat on a water surface or in a diorama. In scenarios such as Saipan, Peleliu or Iwo Jima it supports your US Marines as they storm the shore.
