Product details

Background & context

The West in 1944: the US Rangers had been raised on the model of the British Commandos and went wherever it hurt most; Pointe du Hoc is only the best-known example. Facing them were the Grenadiers, the mass infantry of the Wehrmacht, who defended the retreat through France and later the Rhine hedgerow by hedgerow. A fight between these two units is the picture most people have in their heads of the Second World War, and that is why it is the way into this system.

On the tabletop

The English Field Manual takes you through the rules in 68 pages, and you play on the double-sided mat of about 76 x 57 cm. Twelve US Rangers face twelve Grenadiers, the ruined farmhouse provides the first cover, and even the box's card insert goes on the table as a bunker. The 6 Order Dice, three each in grey and olive green, go into the bag: whoever's colour is drawn gives one unit an order. With the game tokens from the punchboard you keep track of what happens on the table. Afterwards you expand both sides into full platoons.
