    Product details

    Background & context

In June 1944 the Allies had a problem: their standard Sherman's shots bounced off the Tiger, while the Tiger set the Sherman ablaze at two kilometres. The British answer was the Firefly, a Sherman with a 17-pounder gun squeezed into it, the only Allied tank weapon in Normandy that could knock out a Tiger from the front. Wittmann, the best-known tank ace of the Waffen-SS, was killed on 8 August 1944 near Saint-Aignan-de-Cramesnil, very probably by a Firefly. The set pits his Tiger of schwere Panzer-Abteilung 101 against a Firefly of the 27th Armoured Brigade.

    On the tabletop

The box contains a Tiger I and a Sherman Firefly in 1:72 with six paints, two brushes and glue, so all you need are side cutters and a hobby knife. As a diorama you can recreate the encounter of the two tanks in Normandy in August 1944. For games in 20 mm scale both models suit any system-neutral ruleset. There the Tiger is the heavy tank with long reach, the Firefly the British tank whose gun can penetrate it even from the front.
