    The 57 mm M1 anti-tank gun as a plastic kit in 28 mm: one gun sprue with a choice of fixed or folding carriage, plus four GIs as crew. From 1944 this gun was to be found in every US infantry regiment in Europe.

    Background & context

    The US Army built the British 6-pounder under licence from 1942 because its own 37 mm gun could no longer do anything against German tanks. As the M1 with a longer barrel it reached the troops in 1943, and by the time of the Normandy landings every infantry regiment had an anti-tank company with this calibre. It was enough against Panzer IVs and assault guns but not against the front of a Panther; in return the light piece could be brought into position and camouflaged quickly. The paratroopers received a version with a folding carriage that fitted into the cargo glider.

    On the tabletop

    This plastic kit builds the American 57 mm M1 or the British 6-pounder, with a standard trail or the folding version used by airborne troops. In Bolt Action it joins the artillery platoon as a medium anti-tank gun and can be towed by most vehicles. Three of the four figures form the crew, while the fourth can serve as a platoon commander, a spotter or an extra rifleman. Bases, an order die and decals are included.
