Background & context

After entering the war at the end of 1941, the US Army built the most mobile force of the war within a few years. From 1942 the GIs fought in North Africa, then in Sicily and Italy, until in June 1944 they established the second great beachhead in Normandy. Their strength lay less in individual wonder weapons than in teamwork: infantry with self-loading rifles, half-tracks for speed, MGs and mortars for covering fire and packs of Shermans as the backbone.

On the tabletop

This plays as an American platoon with infantry, tank, transport and artillery. From the 36 multi-part GIs you build three squads and also field a lieutenant with an attendant as HQ. The 3 MMG teams, one of them modelled changing position, and the medium mortar team operate as weapons teams behind the line. The 105mm gun with crew takes on the artillery role, the M3A1 half-track brings a squad forward, and the M4 Sherman is your only tank. Status cards and damage markers in card are included, so you have the vehicles under control right from your first game.
