    The M3A1 Scout Car was an American, lightly armored four-wheeled reconnaissance vehicle of World War II. Rubicon describes it as an open-top vehicle with machine gun armament, used as a scout, security vehicle, and armored command vehicle. US cavalry units used the Scout Car in North Africa and Sicily, among other places, before the M8 and M20 took over many of its roles. Large numbers were supplied to British Commonwealth forces, the Soviet Union, and other Allies via Lend-Lease.
