    Background & context

By 1943 the light M5A1 had long ceased to be a battle tank, as its 37 mm gun could no longer cope with German armour. The US Army therefore moved it into reconnaissance and screening; in British, Canadian and Polish units it served as the Stuart VI, often with no turret at all. The M8 used the same chassis but set a short 75 mm howitzer in an open turret and at last gave the reconnaissance units a barrage of their own. Both served in Italy, North-West Europe and the Pacific.

    On the tabletop

From the same chassis you build either the M8 with its short 75 mm howitzer in an open turret or the M5A1 Stuart VI light tank. The M8 gives American or French reconnaissance units their own supporting fire against positions, while the M5A1 handles scouting and security. Both suit scenarios in Italy, North West Europe and the Pacific. A spare road wheel, a hedgerow cutter and decals for US and Allied units come with the kit.
