    Background & context

    The US doctrine of the Tank Destroyer Force did not want tanks but fast hunters with a powerful gun and an open turret. To that end the M10 put a 3-inch gun on a Sherman chassis; 6,706 were built between 1942 and 1943. The British, Canadians and Poles re-armed theirs with the 17-pounder and called the result Achilles. When German armour became too thick, the M36 followed up from September 1944 with a 90 mm gun that was still in service in the Korean War.

    On the tabletop

    The three turrets let you decide which Allied tank destroyer goes on the Sherman chassis. The M10 with its 3-inch gun serves with the American tank destroyers, the Achilles with its 17-pounder with British, Canadian or Polish troops in Italy and North West Europe, and the M36 with its 90 mm gun in games from autumn 1944. The open-topped turret gives the crew little protection against splinters and infantry fire, so it waits in cover for enemy tanks.
