Background & context

Der GPA entstand 1942 in Eile: Ford setzte eine von Yachtkonstrukteuren gezeichnete Wanne auf das Fahrgestell des Jeeps und hoffte auf ein Amphibienfahrzeug für jede Lage. Heraus kam eines, das im Seegang zu klein und an Land zu schwer war. Die US Army winkte ab, der Großteil der Wagen ging über Lend-Lease in die Sowjetunion. Dort taugte er: bei den Flussübergängen von 1944 und 1945 fuhren Aufklärer und Pioniere damit vor der Truppe ans andere Ufer.

On the tabletop

The Ford GPA is the amphibious version of the Jeep, and most of them went to the Red Army under Lend-Lease. For your Soviet force it carries scouts or engineers across rivers in the crossings of 1944 and 1945. In American markings it suits actions in the Pacific or North Africa, where some of them served. The resin and pewter kit includes a driver; the T3 trailer shown in the example picture is not part of it.
