    Background & context

    The Landing Vehicle Tracked goes back to Donald Roebling's civilian swamp rescue vehicle, which the US Marine Corps discovered for landings at the end of the 1930s. Compared with the first model, the LVT-2 received a new drive train and torsilastic suspension; around 2,960 came off the line. The armoured LVT(A)-2 followed in about 450 examples, with protection for the driver's compartment and hull. By 1945, 23 US Army battalions and eleven of the Marine Corps had converted to amphibians.

    On the tabletop

    With the LVT-2 you carry American Marines or US Army soldiers across the water onto an island beach and drive them on inland. Originally meant as a cargo carrier, the tracked vehicle soon became a transport for assault troops. The armoured LVT(A)-2 gives the driver and passengers better protection when the landing goes in under enemy fire. A waterline option is included for tables with water features, and the hatches can be built open or closed. A pewter crew is available separately.
