    Background & context

In July 1941 the War Department settled on the Willys-Overland design, and Ford later built the vehicle under licence as the GPW. Between November 1941 and September 1945, 361,339 Willys MBs left the production lines, along with around 280,000 Ford GPWs. The quarter-tonner was dispatch vehicle, ambulance, weapons carrier and tractor in one and served in every theatre of war. Hardly any other vehicle stands so clearly for the motorised US Army.

    On the tabletop

In your American force the Willys MB serves as messenger car, ambulance, weapons carrier and light tractor all at once. Fitted with the heavy Browning M2 or the lighter M1919, it becomes fast fire support on a flank. Without a weapon it moves officers, runners or wounded across the table. Four US infantrymen are included, the windscreen folds down and the canvas top is optional. The matching trailer is available separately.
