Background & context

The longer the war lasted, the plainer vehicle numbers became. Instead of multi-coloured numerals with a border, units used whatever was to hand: a stencil and a pot of paint, often right in the battalion workshop. The result was single-colour numbers, sometimes neat, sometimes crooked, occasionally just put on with a brush. For the model that means the solid numeral is usually the less conspicuous and therefore more realistic choice.

On the tabletop

The longer the war went on, the plainer turret numbers became, often just sprayed on in one colour through a stencil. These solid black and white numerals without outline recreate that later style. Put white numbers on dark camouflage and black ones on light areas so they stay readable at the table. For early vehicles with coloured numbers, choose another sheet in the range.
