    Product details

    Background & context

When Allied fighter-bombers turned every road movement into a lottery in 1944, quadruple Flak mounts were put onto repaired Panzer IV chassis. The Wirbelwind was given an open-topped, angular turret because the powder smoke would otherwise have suffocated the crew. Against low-flying aircraft and infantry it was brutal, but it was vulnerable to shell splinters and snipers. It was built only in a small series, and was followed by the more heavily armed Ostwind.

    On the tabletop

The Wirbelwind protects your German armoured force in 1944 and 1945 against fighter-bombers, with a 2 cm Flakvierling firing from its open turret. Against trucks, armoured cars and infantry in the open the weapon is just as effective on the ground. The open-topped turret leaves the four crew exposed, however, so keep it away from snipers. The barrels are fixed at 0 or 40 degrees, and two barrel types and extra stowage are included.
