The lorry that kept the war running. The kit builds either the Opel Blitz with tarpaulin or the Maultier half-track, and it comes with seated infantry, decals and a clear template for the windows.

Background & context

Opel had built the Blitz since the early thirties, from 1936 in its own Brandenburg works, and as the Wehrmacht's three-tonner it ended up in every conceivable role: troop transport, radio vehicle, fuel tanker, workshop, anti-aircraft gun platform. In the autumn of 1941 the Eastern Front simply ground to a halt in the mud of the rasputitsa, as wheels just could not carry any more. The answer was the Maultier: at the back the running gear of a retired Panzer I, at the front the familiar lorry. It was not pretty, but it got through.

On the tabletop

This plastic kit builds either the wheeled Opel Blitz or the Maultier with its tracked rear. In Bolt Action the lorry is an unarmoured transport, and the seated infantry figures included show the squad riding in the back. The Maultier suits games set in the mud of the Eastern Front from autumn 1941, the conditions it was built for. Let your infantry dismount behind cover, as the truck cannot take much fire. Decals plus smoke and damage markers are included.
