    Product details

    Background & context

The Sd.Kfz. 251 was the backbone of German mechanized infantry in World War II. The Ausführung D (version D), recognizable by its simplified two-part body, became the most produced variant from 1943 onwards and served on all fronts from the Eastern Front to North Africa. With over 15,000 units produced across all variants, the "Hanomag" - as it was known to both friend and foe - was the German counterpart to the Allied Universal Carrier.

    On the tabletop

Built from early 1943, the Ausf. D is the Hanomag for your panzergrenadiers in the later war years. You can recognise it by the one-piece sloping rear with flat doors. In games it carries a squad forward behind its armour, and once they dismount the machine gun covers them. Two machine gun options and a canvas top, half open or fully closed, are included. Several Rubicon expansion sets, the Pakwagen among them, require exactly this version.
