    Description

A conversion set rather than a complete vehicle: the sprue turns an existing SdKfz 250 or 251 into a mortar carrier. So you do need a base kit, but in return there are enough parts for two conversions.

    What's included

    • 44 parts on 1 vehicle sprue plus 2 figure sprues (plastic)
    • 1 conversion set for an SdKfz 250/7 variant with 8cm GrW 34 (plastic)
    • 1 conversion set for an SdKfz 251/2 variant with 8cm GrW 34 (plastic)
    • 1 stand-alone mortar team (plastic)

    Material: Plastic

    Product details

    Background & context

German reconnaissance needed fire support that could keep up, and the SdKfz 250/7 provided it. The 8cm GrW 34 was fixed in the fighting compartment, 42 rounds were carried on board, and a second vehicle hauled the rest along behind. With the Panzergrenadiers the SdKfz 251/2 took on the same role on a larger scale. Its baseplate could be released, so that the crew could also set up the mortar beside the vehicle.

    On the tabletop

With this set you convert one SdKfz 250 and one SdKfz 251 into carriers for the 8 cm GrW 34 mortar. The 250/7 served with the light reconnaissance companies and the 251/2 with the panzergrenadiers, both providing high-angle fire that keeps pace with the troops. It lets you reach enemies behind walls or in trenches over the top of their cover. The baseplate could be removed, so a separate mortar team is included to fight beside the vehicle. The base vehicles are sold separately.
