    The SdKfz 250 Alte is the early, characteristically multi-faceted version of the German light half-track - designed as a base kit for all SdKfz 250 expansion sets. The set allows for the optional construction of either the open SdKfz 250/1 troop transporter or the fully armoured SdKfz 253 artillery observation vehicle.

    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The SdKfz 250 was the lighter counterpart to the larger SdKfz 251 and was developed by DEMAG. The early version - the so-called "Alte" (Old) version - featured an elaborately manufactured hull made of multiple angled armor plates, which offered good protection against small arms fire but was expensive to produce and cramped inside. After approximately 4,200 units were built, production ceased in October 1943 in favor of the simplified "Neue" (New) version. The fully enclosed SdKfz 253 variant served as an observation vehicle for artillery forward observers who had to accompany advancing Panzer and Panzergrenadier units.

    The set depicts the light SdKfz 250/1 Alte or the closed SdKfz 253. In-game, it can represent small squads, observers, or command elements on the move. As a light half-track platform, it is flexible but not designed for prolonged fire engagements.
