    Description

    A late stopgap with a big punch: the conversion set mounts a PaK 40 on the fighting compartment deck of the SdKfz 251/1 Ausf D. The gun can be built in travelling or firing position, and a loader and an officer ride in the vehicle with it.

    Background & context

    From 1944 the Wehrmacht was short of tank destroyers, and the workshops turned to what was plentiful: half-tracks. A complete 7.5cm PaK 40, gun shield and all, went onto the open deck of the 251 Ausf D, mounted on two H-shaped girders. The chassis was never designed for the weight and recoil of the gun, and the vehicles were in for repair correspondingly often. Even so, the armaments leadership classed production as urgent in December 1944: range counted for more than durability.

    On the tabletop

    The Pakwagen puts a 7.5 cm PaK 40 onto the SdKfz 251 Ausf. D and gives your German force of the last war years mobile anti-tank firepower. Its strength is the reach of the gun, so it waits well camouflaged in a prepared position for enemy tanks. The chassis was never designed for the weight and recoil, and its armour only stops small arms. You build the gun travelling or ready to fire, with a loader and an officer riding along. A Rubicon Ausf. D is required to complete it.
