    Background & context

    The Ausf D came off the line from 1943 with a much simplified body: the whole rear now consisted of a single sloped plate with flat doors, which cut production time and material considerably. Precisely because the hull was cheap to come by, the half-track grew into a whole family of vehicles. The 251/5 carried engineers forward, the 251/8 cleared the wounded out of the fighting, and the 251/10 gave the platoon commander a gun of his own in the PaK 36. More than 15,000 half-tracks of all versions were built by the end of the war.

    On the tabletop

    This kit builds one of three special vehicles based on the SdKfz 251 Ausf. D for your panzergrenadiers. The 251/5 engineer vehicle brings a pioneer squad up to obstacles and fortifications. As the 251/8 armoured ambulance it recovers wounded from the fighting and makes a good scenario objective. With the 3.7 cm PaK 36, the 251/10 becomes light anti-tank support on tracks. During assembly you commit to one of the three versions.
