    Product details

    Background & context

The German reconnaissance battalions drove ahead in light four-wheeled armoured cars, and the SdKfz 222 was their best-known vehicle. Over the open hull sat a folding wire mesh screen against hand grenades, and beneath it the commander and gunner worked a 2cm cannon that could be elevated steeply. The SdKfz 223 swapped the cannon for an MG and a radio set with frame aerial and kept the link to the regiment. Later, heavier eight-wheeled armoured cars pushed both types out of many units.

    On the tabletop

This light armoured car drives ahead of your German reconnaissance in games set in the early and middle war years. As the SdKfz 222 it carries a 2 cm cannon that turns and elevates steeply, for use against light and unarmoured targets. The SdKfz 223 swaps it for a machine gun and a radio set with frame aerial, keeping the link to the rear. The anti-grenade mesh can be built open or closed, and the crews supplied wear uniforms for Europe or the Afrika Korps.
