    Product details

    Background & context

The SdKfz 260 and 261 were the radio variants of the light armoured car: turret out, radio in. The 260 worked at short range for company level, while the 261 carried the large frame aerial over the superstructure and kept contact with higher command. Both rode with the reconnaissance battalions and passed on what the spearhead saw, one of the reasons why German reconnaissance reacted faster than the enemy's in 1940. Without a turret they stayed behind the foremost line.

    On the tabletop

This conversion set turns the Rubicon SdKfz 222/223 armoured car into a turretless SdKfz 260 or 261 radio vehicle. In your German reconnaissance battalion it stays behind the front line and passes on what the armed scouts report. The 261 carries the large frame aerial for this and keeps contact with higher command. The twelve parts supply the superstructure and aerials, while the base vehicle is bought separately.
