Rubicon's Tiger II comes with the Zimmerit texture moulded on, so you have no putty work to do. 242 parts on five sprues leave you the choice between Porsche and Henschel turret, with or without interior.

Background & context

Zimmerit was a paste meant to give magnetic mines nothing to grip. On the Tiger II only the early vehicles carried it, and in the autumn of 1944 the coating was dropped again. The tank itself combined an 8.8cm KwK 43 L/71 with steeply sloped frontal armour and was almost impossible to defeat at range. In return it guzzled fuel, overloaded gearboxes and bridges, and reached the heavy tank battalions only in small numbers.

On the tabletop

The Tiger II with Zimmerit texture represents the early vehicles of the heavy tank battalions that fought in Normandy and on the Eastern Front in 1944. For your Second World War games in 28 mm you choose between the rounded initial turret and the production turret with its flat front. The long 8.8 cm gun works at long range, so you place it on long sight lines rather than in cramped villages. With the interior and five crew figures, the model also suits a diorama.
