    Product details

    Background & context

The Wurfrahmen 40 was artillery in its most direct form: the rockets stayed in their transport crates, the crates hung in adjustable frames on the vehicle's flanks and were fired electrically. Nothing could be aimed precisely with it, but six heavy high-explosive rockets came down at once. In towns and against field fortifications the effect was devastating, and the howl of the approaching rockets earned the system the nicknames Stuka zu Fuß (Stuka on foot) and Heulende Kuh (howling cow).

    On the tabletop

With the Wurfrahmen 40 your SdKfz 251 Ausf. D carries six heavy rockets, three on each side. It cannot aim precisely, but a single salvo covers a whole target area and works especially well in towns and against field fortifications. Because the rockets were so heavy, reloading took a long time. The howl of the incoming rockets earned the weapon the name Stuka zu Fuss. Take the frame off and the same model serves as an ordinary 251/1 Ausf. D personnel carrier.
