    Background & context

German reconnaissance battalions often drove half a day's march ahead of the armoured formations; their task was not to fight but to report. The Sd.Kfz 222 suited that: lightly armoured, fast on roads, with a 2 cm cannon in an open turret over which a wire mesh screen could be folded against hand grenades. The 223 gave up the cannon and carried a radio set instead, together with the conspicuous frame aerial. In the deserts of North Africa both played to their strengths, whereas in the mud of the Eastern Front the wheeled vehicles quickly reached their limits.

    On the tabletop

This kit builds a light armoured car for reconnaissance duties in Bolt Action. As an Sd.Kfz 222 it carries a 2 cm autocannon and an MG 34 to engage infantry and light vehicles. As the 223 radio car with its frame aerial it gives up the gun and serves as a command vehicle. The decals let you field it for German, Romanian, Bulgarian or Nationalist Chinese armies, and a stat card and order dice are included. It can also be used in Achtung Panzer! games.
