Product details

Background & context

Rattenkrieg was the name German soldiers gave to what was left in Stalingrad from autumn 1942, when the front broke up into stairwells and cellar vaults. Whole companies wore themselves out against single factory halls, and front lines ran through storeys instead of across maps. Those who survived it fought differently afterwards: less drill, more submachine gun, captured weapons, short rushes instead of long firefights. The figures in this box show exactly these battle-worn veterans of the mid-war years.

On the tabletop

The four resin characters give the platoon its face: the officer and radio operator form the HQ, the medical orderly goes along as the Medic, and the NCO leads one of the squads. The 36 multi-pose veterans are enough for three squads working their way forward house by house. With two MMG teams you can close two streets at once, while the mortar fires over the rooftops from a back yard. You build the Sd.Kfz. 222/223 either as a 222 with its cannon or as a 223 with frame aerial and send it ahead as a scout car, and the Panzer IV B/C/D stays close to the infantry.
