    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The term "Rattenkrieg" (rat war) comes from the German soldiers' jargon for the battles for Stalingrad in 1942/43 - one of the most devastating and brutal urban battles of the entire war. Within a few square kilometers, every building, every basement, and every ruin was fought over. The veterans depicted here are experienced army infantrymen who, through long deployments on the front, have become a battle-hardened and pragmatic force. Close-quarters combat weaponry such as submachine guns and captured weapons complete the picture of a unit specialized in urban house-to-house fighting in the mid-war period.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    The army offers four tactically well-defined platoons: the veteran infantry with AT rifle hold key positions, while the two MMG teams secure fire lanes and force enemy infantry into cover. The mortar takes on entrenched targets at medium range. The pioneer platoons with flamethrowers are the ideal answer to building garrisons and fortified positions - no unit fears a flamethrower team more than an infantry squad in ruins. The Panzer IV provides armored firepower, and the Sd.Kfz 223 ensures mobility and command. This compilation is a solid starting point and also an expandable basis for a large Eastern Front collection.
