Product details

Background & context

Farmsteads in Europe lay where roads, water and fields meet, which is exactly where armies ran into each other. Hougoumont in 1815, La Haye Sainte and countless nameless farms in Flanders and Normandy show the same pattern: a solidly built farm was a small fortress for infantry and therefore drew artillery until nothing was left of the roof. On the table a ruin like this works across the centuries, because little changed in the masonry of a farmhouse up to 1945.

On the tabletop

The ruined farmhouse is cover and objective in one. In Bolt Action it gives infantry inside hard cover and blocks lines of sight. Because it is modular, you can build it as an open ruin that can be shot through, or as a solid block a whole squad can hide behind. In Black Powder and Pike & Shotte it serves as a fortified farm that a unit occupies and holds. Add walls and hedges and it becomes a farmstead for the centre of the table.
