    Background & context

    The Churchill started out as an undergunned infantry tank and had a catastrophic debut in the Dieppe Raid of 1942. Its crews liked it all the same: its long run of track on the ground took it up slopes that other tanks did not even attempt, and on Longstop Hill in Tunisia it surprised the German defenders by doing exactly that. Over the years it went from the 6-pdr to the 75mm gun and on to the AVRE, whose Petard mortar broke open bunkers at short range.

    On the tabletop

    With seven turrets and four guns, you decide during assembly which job the Churchill does in your British armoured platoon. In Bolt Action it is a heavy tank: the Mk III and IV with the 6-pounder and the 75 mm Mk VI and North Africa 75 take on tanks and positions, while the Mk V with its 95 mm howitzer supports the infantry. The AVRE uses its Petard mortar to break open bunkers at short range. It can also be fielded in Achtung Panzer! games.
