Product details

Background & context

On the night leading into 6 June 1944 the 82nd and 101st Airborne dropped over the Cotentin peninsula, widely scattered and without heavy equipment, to secure bridges and crossroads behind the landing beaches. Facing them were grenadier regiments, which made up the bulk of the German infantry in the West and brought up their counter-attacks with half-tracks such as the Sd.Kfz. 251. On the US side the M3A1 did the same job. The bocage countryside with its earth banks and sunken lanes turned this into weeks of close-quarter fighting over a few hundred metres.

On the tabletop

Twelve US Airborne and twelve German grenadiers make up the infantry, and behind them each side brings its half-track: the M3A1 for the Americans, the Sd.Kfz. 251/1 for the Germans. You place the ruined farmhouse in the middle of the double-sided mat, and the first game revolves around this ruin. The order dice go into the dice bag, and whoever's colour is drawn activates one of their units. Markers, templates and the quick reference card lie alongside, and anything you need to look up is in the German rulebook of the third edition. Later each side grows into a full platoon with further squads, weapons teams and vehicles.
