    Background & context

    The American infantry was converted almost entirely to self-loading rifles earlier than any other army. The M1 Garand gave every single man firepower that elsewhere remained the preserve of the machine-gun team, the Browning Automatic Rifle provided the base of sustained fire, and the bazooka made the platoon independent of heavy support against tanks. Because the USA also clothed its allies through Lend-Lease, late French and Brazilian units in Italy looked practically the same.

    On the tabletop

    This frame builds an American infantry platoon for Bolt Action, suitable from the Mediterranean to the end of the war in Europe. The 30 figures become rifle squads with M1 Garand and BAR, close-range squads with Thompson and Grease Gun, or command models. The bazooka gives the platoon its own weapon against vehicles. Early or late backpacks match the figures to the campaign, and painted accordingly they also serve as late-war French or Brazilian troops.
