    Background & context

    The Red Army sent its rifle formations into the field in mass: many rifles, few submachine guns, plus one light machine gun per squad and an anti-tank rifle against anything armoured. In field tunic and pilotka these men fought from the defence of Moscow by way of Stalingrad and Kursk into the streets of Berlin. Only from 1943 did the proportion of submachine gun squads grow markedly, which explains the weight of the late Soviet attacks.

    On the tabletop

    With 40 Red Army soldiers in summer uniform you get a large amount of Soviet infantry for Bolt Action from a single box. Most figures are armed with the Mosin-Nagant as riflemen, the PPSh-41 equips men for the assault, and the DP-28 gives each squad its light machine gun. The PTRD-41 becomes an anti-tank rifle against light vehicles, and the sniper rifle a marksman for long range. The figures fit anywhere from Moscow via Stalingrad and Kursk to Berlin.
