    Background & context

The idea dates from the late thirties: if tanks can cover forty kilometres a day, the infantry accompanying them has to keep up. The Sd.Kfz 251 was the solution and, with more than 15,000 built, became the most-produced German half-track. From 1943 the Ausf. D replaced the many angled plates of its predecessors with a few flat, sloping surfaces that were quicker to weld and more economical in material. The manufacturer's name, Hanomag, stuck to the whole type as a nickname.

    On the tabletop

Your Panzergrenadiers ride into battle under armour in the Hanomag Ausf. D in Bolt Action. It counts as an armoured transport, carries a full squad forward and can also tow anti-tank guns, light howitzers or anti-aircraft guns when needed. The optional rear MG adds covering fire to the rear. The simplified hull of the Ausf. D belongs in games from 1943. Crew, stowage and decals are included, and it is just as suitable for Achtung Panzer!
