Product details

Background & context

After Crete in 1941 the Fallschirmjäger was effectively finished as an airborne force. Losses in the drop on the island were so high that a second operation on that scale was never authorised again. The formations remained in being all the same and went wherever things were at their tightest: Monte Cassino, Normandy, the Ardennes. Because they belonged to the Luftwaffe they had an above-average number of submachine guns and assault rifles, which makes them dangerous in close combat and expensive on the gaming table.

On the tabletop

The box is already packed by unit: the Oberleutnant leads the HQ, you give him the 2 additional riflemen as his escort, and on top come three squads of 10 men each with their own LMG team. The squad with 8 assault rifles and 4 Panzerfausts is the assault squad for short range, while the other two, each with 2 MP40s and 3 Panzerfausts, hold the line. Mortar with observer, Panzerschreck, flamethrower and sniper attach as Weapons Teams, and the PaK 40 is dug in as anti-tank defence. One squad drives forward in the Sd.Kfz 251 Ausf. D, and the StuG III Ausf. G takes on tanks and positions as an assault gun.
