    Background & context

    The first combat use fell to the British: at El Alamein in October 1942 they went in with M4s that Washington had diverted at short notice from its own stocks. The British christened the type Sherman, a name the US Army later adopted itself. After that it came off the lines on a scale no German design could match, and went via Lend-Lease to the Red Army, Poles, French and Commonwealth as well. Not the best tank of the war, but the one that was always there.

    On the tabletop

    In Bolt Action the M4 Sherman is a medium tank for the army lists of the USA, Britain, the Soviet Union, Poland, France and the Commonwealth. Its gun can deal with medium tanks and is particularly effective with high-explosive rounds against infantry in buildings and dug-in positions. That makes it the tank that accompanies your infantry as it advances. Against heavy German tanks, pair it with a Firefly in British lists or an Easy Eight in American ones.
