    Product details

    Background & context

The M18 was the only American tank destroyer designed as such from the ground up, and at the same time the fastest tracked vehicle of the war. The speed was paid for with a hull that offered little more than protection against splinters. At Arracourt in September 1944 Hellcat crews drove through the morning mist into the flanks of German Panthers and showed what the mix of speed and 76mm gun is good for. In the Pacific worthwhile tank targets were lacking, and there it mostly served as fire support.

    On the tabletop

In the game the M18 Hellcat counts as a fast, lightly armoured vehicle with a heavy anti-tank gun and goes into an American armoured platoon. Its armour is no more than an inch thick, so it lives on speed: come out of cover, hit heavy German tanks in the flank and move on. In Chinese lists and in the Pacific it is used more for fire support. Rules for it in Achtung Panzer! are in that game's rulebook.
