Product details

Background & context

In the winter of 1944/45 German Fallschirmjäger regiments lay in the Ardennes and on the Eastern Front in positions they would not have held for a week without heavy weapons. The MG 42 with its enormous rate of fire was the decisive argument here: a single squad could close off a whole stretch of hillside for as long as the ammunition lasted. The medium mortar dealt with everything that gathered in hollows and behind rows of houses. By this point winter clothing was standard issue and no longer an improvisation.

On the tabletop

In the winter of 1944/45 the Fallschirmjäger fought as light infantry, for example in the Battle of the Bulge, and were well supplied with heavy weapons through the Luftwaffe. This box provides their heavy weapons platoon for Bolt Action: two tripod-mounted MG 42s with three crew each, an 81 mm mortar with three crew and the platoon commander, all in winter clothing. The machine guns close off open ground and the mortar hits enemies in hollows and behind houses. Four order dice are included.
