Hintergrund & Einordnung

The United States Marine Corps was among the crucial combat forces in the Pacific War. With amphibious landings on Japanese-occupied islands - from Guadalcanal in 1942 to Okinawa in 1945 - the Marines fought their way step by step towards Japan. Against a fanatically fighting enemy in the jungle and in fortified positions, they relied on close-range firepower: Thompson submachine guns, shotguns, and BARs. The USMC tradition dates back to the War of Independence - their motto Semper Fidelis stands for unconditional camaraderie and fighting spirit.
