    Background & context

    In December 1941 the Wehrmacht stood before Moscow in summer coats, while facing it troops from the east were forming up in padded jackets and felt boots. The Winter War against Finland had taught the Red Army at great cost what cold-weather kit is worth, and the lesson stuck. Telogreika, ushanka and mittens became the very image of the Soviet soldier and remained so right up to the street fighting in East Prussia and Berlin.

    On the tabletop

    The 40 figures in telogreika jackets and ushanka hats are made for Bolt Action games on the winter Eastern Front, from December 1941 outside Moscow onwards. Mosin-Nagant, Tokarev semi-automatic rifle and DP-28 make rifle squads, while PPSh-41, PPS-43 and PPD-40 make pure assault squads. The scoped rifle becomes a sniper, the PTRD a team against vehicles, and the captured Panzerfaust another tank hunter. Command models lead your squads.
