    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    When the Wehrmacht invaded the Soviet Union in the summer of 1941, Hitler expected a swift campaign - but the Red Army put up fierce resistance. The bitter cold of the first winter of the war caught the German troops completely unprepared, while Soviet soldiers fought in padded winter clothing that barely restricted their mobility. Experiences from the Winter War against Finland had shown the Red Army how crucial cold-weather equipment was for combat effectiveness. The heavy KV tank was at that time one of the most powerful tanks on the battlefield - hardly vulnerable to most German anti-tank weapons of the early war years.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    A large box for serious winter gaming nights: 80 infantrymen make up eight rifle squads, plus an HQ set, MMG, mortar, and a KV-1/2 as the armored backbone. This setup allows for complete BA-1500-point lists for winter scenarios on the Eastern Front.
