    Background & context

For the Red Army the Russian winter was not an enemy but a tool. While the Wehrmacht froze in summer greatcoats outside Moscow in 1941, fresh formations moved up in padded telogreikas, felt boots and white snow suits. The support weapons became a problem in the process: a Maxim with its wheeled mount weighs over 60 kilograms and had to be dragged on sledges through deep snow. Mortars could hardly dig themselves into frozen ground, but the hard surface increased their fragmentation effect.

    On the tabletop

For your Soviet winter army in Bolt Action this box contains a command group, a Maxim machine gun and an 82 mm mortar, all in winter clothing. The command group leads your platoon, the Maxim covers open snowfields with sustained fire and the mortar engages enemies behind cover. Together with rifle squads in winter dress they form a consistent platoon for games outside Moscow or in other winter campaigns on the Eastern Front.
