Product details

Background & context

In May 1857, sepoys of the East India Company's Bengal Army mutinied at Meerut, sparked among other things by rumours of cartridges for the new Enfield rifle greased with beef and pork fat. The mutineers marched on Delhi and proclaimed the aged Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah II their leader. Sieges and fighting around Delhi, Cawnpore and Lucknow dominated the following months. After the rising was suppressed, the British Crown took direct rule over India in 1858.

On the tabletop

Deploy the sepoys in close line while they still fight in their old regimental order, or loosen them into an irregular band with shields and tulwars. The bugler helps you mark out a unit's command group. In Black Powder they make the opponents of British columns before Delhi or Lucknow. With other heads, the same parts become native infantry or militias for further campaigns on the Indian subcontinent.
