Background & context

Light Dragoons were the workhorses of the British cavalry: reconnaissance, outpost duty, escorts and, when it had to be, the charge. Until about 1812 they rode in the dolman with the distinctive Tarleton helmet; after that the army switched to the shako and a coat that looked suspiciously like French models. For hot climates there were helmeted heads as well. Between 1808 and Waterloo this range covers almost any British cavalry scenario.

On the tabletop

Twelve troopers, an officer and a trumpeter form a squadron of British light dragoons. During assembly you set the period: the early Peninsular War with Tarleton helmet and dolman, or the later uniform with shako and French-style jacket up to Waterloo. In games they handle scouting, outpost duty and escorts, and the charge when needed. Together with hussars they form Wellington's light cavalry.
