    Background & context

The Royal Artillery fought in brigades of six guns, usually 6- or 9-pounders plus one howitzer for high-angle fire. It became famous for Spherical Case Shot, the Shrapnel shell, which no other army had in that form. In the Iberian Peninsula the crews still wore the cylindrical stovepipe shako, and in 1815 at Waterloo the Belgic with its raised front, and both head variants are in this box.

    On the tabletop

Three guns, three limbers and fifteen gunners give you a British foot battery of the Napoleonic Wars. You choose the barrels during assembly: short or long 6-pounders and 9-pounders for direct fire on lines and columns, or the 5.5 inch howitzer for high-angle fire at troops behind cover. Limbered up, the battery is on the march; unlimbered, it is ready to fire. With the stovepipe shako the crew belongs in the Peninsula, with the Belgic shako at Waterloo.
