Product details

Background & context

Between 1809 and 1811 Barclay de Tolly rebuilt the Russian army: a new divisional structure, tighter training, more artillery per formation. It proved itself in 1812 at Smolensk and Borodino, where the line infantry stood up to hours of bombardment. At that time the older shako was still worn, and many regiments kept it even after the kiver was introduced. Service lasted a lifetime and from 1805 was formally limited to 25 years.

On the tabletop

This box gives you a large Russian battalion in the older shako for Black Powder, suitable for 1809 to 1814. Two head options allow musketeers, grenadiers or a mix of both, and four command figures lead the battalion. Russian line infantry endured hours of bombardment at Smolensk and Borodino and often attacked with the bayonet. In your army it stands in the battle line, where endurance matters more than speed.
