Product details

Background & context

A 12-pounder needed a well-drilled team: sponge, load, lay, fire, and all of it against the clock, because every minute without a shot handed ground to the enemy infantry. In the Russian army the heavy pieces belonged to the position batteries and seldom changed position. From Smolensk by way of Leipzig to the campaigns in France their role stayed the same: stand fast, load, keep firing.

On the tabletop

The 12-pounder was the standard heavy gun of the later Russian army of the Napoleonic Wars. In this metal set four gunners are just firing their piece. Heavy guns belonged to the position batteries, which rarely changed position, so in Black Powder you set them up where they have a clear field of fire and keep the enemy at a distance. Licornes and 6-pounders from the same range complete the battery.
