Product details

Background & context

The uhlans took their lance and the cut of their uniform from their Polish models; by 1812 Russia had raised six regiments. For the campaign against Napoleon six more were added, converted without further ado from dragoon regiments. On the battlefield the lance was feared above all against infantry that was already wavering and in the pursuit, whereas in a prolonged melee it was rather unwieldy.

On the tabletop

These are Russian uhlans as 14 lancers, with the lance built lowered for the charge or carried upright on the march. In games you send them against infantry that is already wavering and into the pursuit, where the lance is at its best. In a long melee with other cavalry they are less at home. From 1812 Russia raised additional uhlan regiments from dragoons, so the unit fits the campaigns against Napoleon.
