Product details

Background & context

Dry stone walls built without mortar are among the oldest structures there are and shaped pasture land from Scotland to Natal. Rorke's Drift had begun as James Rorke's trading post and in 1879 belonged to a Swedish mission before the army took it over as a depot and hospital. Its stone cattle kraal beside the storehouse became a position of its own on the night of the attack, covering the eastern side.

On the tabletop

Four straight walls and four corners make a closed rectangle, for example a cattle pen next to a building. In Black Powder the intact wall gives infantry solid cover, and anyone storming it has to climb the stones first. For the Anglo-Zulu War you recreate the Rorke's Drift kraal, while in Pike & Shotte the same parts mark out fields and lanes. The damaged version from the same range shows the wall after the fighting.
