Product details

Background & context

Walls of piled fieldstone enclosed many cattle kraals on farms and mission stations across southern Africa. Rorke's Drift had one right beside the storehouse, and on the night of 22 to 23 January 1879 it became part of the defence. The British held it until late in the night and gave it up only under heavy pressure. Walls like these decayed quickly once nobody looked after them, and that is the state this pack shows.

On the tabletop

Crumbling walls with gaps belong wherever a place should look old, abandoned or fought over. In Black Powder you join the four sections and corners into a ruined kraal where infantry takes cover in the Anglo-Zulu War while the enemy pushes through the breaches. Next to the intact walls from the same range, the position shows the marks of a long fight. The dry stone walls also sit well on rural Pike & Shotte tables.
