Background & context

The Panzer III was conceived as the armoured force's own tank killer and to that end carried a 3.7cm gun at first, later the 5cm KwK 38 and 39. In France and in the attack on the Soviet Union it made up the bulk of Germany's battle tanks. Against the T-34 and KV-1 the calibre soon fell short, so the Ausf. N was given the short 7.5cm gun of the Panzer IV and slipped into the support role. The chassis lived on as the StuG III until the end of the war.

On the tabletop

In France and in the invasion of the Soviet Union the Panzer III made up a large share of Germany's tanks, so it appears often in German armoured platoons in Bolt Action. It is a medium tank whose armament you fix during assembly: the Ausf. J, L and M carry the 5 cm gun for fighting tanks, while the Ausf. N has the short 7.5 cm gun as a light howitzer for supporting infantry. The kit contains one vehicle.
