    Product details

    Background & context

The Panzer II was really only meant as a stopgap until the Panzer III and IV arrived in numbers. Yet in 1939 it made up more than a thousand of the roughly 3,000 German tanks, and in France in 1940 it helped carry the rapid thrusts of the Panzer divisions. Its 2cm gun and the thin armour of the early versions were enough against infantry and light vehicles, but against a Somua or a Matilda it stood no chance. After Barbarossa it moved into reconnaissance and training units, and its chassis lived on in the Marder II and the Wespe.

    On the tabletop

The plastic Panzer II fills early German armoured platoons in Bolt Action with the vehicle that was more numerous than any other German tank at the start of the war. Its light autocannon mows down enemy infantry and is a danger to thinly armoured vehicles, while against a Somua or a Matilda it stands little chance. It suits games in Poland and France, in North Africa and in the invasion of the Soviet Union. Waterslide decals and instructions are included.
